It is a social program aimed to the families of the Colombian Alta Guajira, distributed in 18 rancherías; the beneficiary population is approximately 2000 indigenous people, including children, adolescents, adults and the elderly. This vulnerable population with our comprehensive program through the execution of our 5 projects seek to inhibit the crisis, guaranteeing their vital minimum, respect and guarantee of their economic, social and cultural rights, resocializing the community, to offer them the opportunity of a dignified life project and their sustainable human development. The Wayuu population lives in a context of all dimensions of extreme mental, economic, social, and personal poverty.

It is noteworthy that we work on the resocialization and overcoming of the lack of culture that exists inside their culture, it is a comprehensive community program because it works with and for the community, rescuing and exporting its cultural wealth.

This program is developed in the third headquarter of the Women and Home Foundation located in the Ranchería La Playa of Alta Guajira, this headquarter counts and is sustained by solar energy through 8 solar panels, in addition its water source is through a water condensing machine. Soon will be inaugurated a desalination plant that will provide more than a thousand liters of water daily to the population.

The integral program for the indigenous Wayuu population is developed in harmony with the Sustainable Development Goals – SDGs, of the UN 2030 Agenda of the Development Program – UNDP. The projects of this comprehensive program are aimed at contributing to the fulfillment of the following development objectives – ODS:

PROYECTOS

Community home

We started this Project in August 2017, in order to benefit kids and girls aged 2 to 5 with health care, nutrition as well as initial education under the etnoeducation guidelines, between 8 am and 5 pm.

Bi weekly delivery of supplies

Every two weeks, the Wayuú families receive food deliveries in order to improve the nutritional levels of the chosen homes.

Housing improvement

This program consists of both, infrastructure improvement and the formation of healthy families by the training in serum preparation, hand washing, healthy environments for the family, among others, always respecting their culture and traditions to promote healthy homes.

Productive workshop

Nowadays we are on the way of educating the Wayuú community attending their likes, interests, skills and capabilities. In that direction, we are training them in bakery, dressmaking, tissues industrialization and espadrilles manufacturing. We will soon have the third headquarter of the Woman and Home Foundation in La Alta Guajira be selfsustainable, as the others in Bucaramanga.

Sanitation and drinkable water

We develop sanitation and drinkable water programs through training courses addressed to the communities affected by dryness in order to contribute to inhibit vectorial consequences caused by diarrheal and breathing diseases as the lack of economic development due to drinkable water shortages.

On the other hand, our desalination plant benefits the families of La Alta Guajira with the delivery of a thousand liters of drinkable water a day.

School dining room

We develop a project of nutritional and psychosocial support addressed to kids and girls in situation of vulnerability in the Alta Guajira. It consists of the delivery of three balanced food rations a day and respecting their gastronomic tradition.

Christmas bonus activity

Since 2016, this welfare activity moves from Bucaramanga (homeless) to the Wayuú indigenous population in La Alta Guajira, to benefit more than 2000 people including children, third aged, with food delivery, water, clothing, snacks, lunch and a health brigade. This event aims at providing the Wayuús with a decent Christmas season by covering vital needs to the most vulnerable.

Every October, the Woman and Home Foundation starts collecting food, water, clothes and presents. These donations from the good hearted are received at the three headquarters of the foundation: Bucaramanga, calle 91 # 24-117 Diamante II, Calle 116 # 22a_72 and at the ranchería La Playa, Alta Guajira, as well as at the UDES stores in Bucaramanga, Cúcuta, Valledupar and Bogotá.
